Rodgers, Packers Dominate Giants in Wildcard Matchup

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers showed the world how good he is in the convincing 38-13 win against the New York Giants.

After being shut out in the first quarter and losing wide receiver Jordy Nelson early in the second, Rodgers led the offense and proved why he is one if not the best quarterback in the NFL.

Up 7-6 as the first half was ending, Rodgers showed off his arm talent when he completed a well-placed 42 yard Hail Mary pass in the back of the endzone to wide receiver Randall Cobb to extend their lead 14-6 going into the half. That play seemed to uplift the Packers and was the early dagger for the Giants.

“It’s unbelievable… (Rodgers) makes the throw guys are misjudging it and one of us is able to come up with it,” said Cobb on his Hail Mary catch.

Rodgers was able to move the ball through the air well against a talented Giants secondary. He finished the game completing 25 of 40 passes for 362 yards and four touchdowns. A big credit goes to the Packers offensive line. While they did give up five sacks, the offensive line gave Rodgers plenty of time on many plays to find his receivers down field.

One receiver Rodgers found a lot was Cobb. After missing the last two games with an ankle injury, Cobb returned in a big way. He was able to haul in five catches for 116 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Davante Adams had a nice game of his own catching 8 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown.

“Davante (Adams) made a bunch of plays,” Rodgers said. “And Randall Cobb, who this offense has been missing for a long time. We’re better with 18 on the field and he showed it tonight.”

Defensively, the Packers stepped up to the challenge. They only allowed one touchdown, which happened after the Packers offense went for it on fourth and one on there side of the field and failed to convert. Two plays later, Giants quarterback Eli Manning hit wide receiver Tavarres King on a 41-yard touchdown pass. The defense forced Manning to throw one interception and forced one fumble as they made it difficult for the Giants to put up points.

The Packers will travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys in the divisional round of the playoffs. The two teams met earlier this season in week six. The Cowboys throttled the Packers 30-16.

No update on Nelson after he was carted off in the second quarter due to a rib injury. The team does not know how significant the injury is, but “obviously have a concern.”
