Growing up all over the United States, Manhattan native Fredrick Settles Better known as DJ Focus aka Mr. Turn Up ended up in Buffalo NY where he attended Buffalo State College studying marketing. About 6 years ago he rekindled his love for music but this time in a different form. Instead of just listening to a variety of artists he introduced himself to a mic and two turn tables. DJ Focus has a style of mixing is suited for any club , radio, mix tape, and the cruise scene. He has taken his versatile open-format of djing to various States and Countries around the world because he possesses that electrical ear and ability to entertain a crowd worldwide.

Attending college with Focus and being a dancer at our school I had the pleasure on several occasions to see him in action and work with him. So when the opportunity presented itself to catch up with Mr. Turn Up, the first thing I had to ask him was when did he get involve with Djing? Since this is an industry that is constantly changing, there has to be a form of inspiration or motivation that keeps him interested in this craft. So I asked him was if this was a passion that he always pursued or was there something or someone that led you down this path?

DJF- I started in the fall of 2006; I never considered being a DJ seriously until a classmate of mine in college who was also a fellow nightlife promoter persuaded me to take it serious. He used to come by my dorm room and hear me play different types of music and also exclusive songs that I often came across in advance.

The people I have the pleasure of entertaining keep me going. Music is a tough business and you have to possess very thick skin to deal with a lot of the challenges. Every smiling face, very compliment, every call or text of inspiration and recognition keep me going.

Being a DJ is an experience in itself, so I wanted to know what the best experience he has encountered.

DJF- I don’t actually have just one best experience but I do have very memorable moments just about every night. I am blessed with the opportunity to get paid for doing something I truly love and enjoy, not many people can say they love what they do and also get paid well on top of that.

Focus is one of the few DJ’s that can make a living off of just DJing alone, so I needed to know what makes his DJ entity stand out from the others.

DJF-I’m really not your average DJ. People gravitate towards me because of my personality. When I met people for the first time I try to avoid telling them that I am a DJ for a long as possible because I want them to know me not just want I do.

Because he is a successful DJ working outside of the normal club scene, I asked him if he could give us a brief on what he wanted people to know about his craft from his point of view.

DJF-Practice is really the key to success as a DJ. The more time and effort you put in the more results you get out of it just like most of the things in life. I have come a long way from not be able to mix 2 songs on beat together.

Pro Player Insider is all about connecting fans with players I wanted to know when he had free time did he engage in the life as a sports spectator, and if he did who was his favorite player in any sport.

DJF-I really don’t watch much TV due to time constraints but I do enjoy watching basketball live and on TV when I get the chance too. Michael Jordan is my favorite basketball player.

Since I love for both sports and music, I asked him if he had the opportunity to make a mix tape for any team or athlete who would it be and why? And what songs would you put on the mixtape?

DJF- I would want to make a mixtape for Kevin Durant and The Oklahoma City Thunder. I like Durant a lot he’s a pure scorer and also knows how to make the players around him better. He also plays every game with the urgency of getting the win.

DJ Focus is currently the active DJ on carinval cruise ship for the next 3 months which is going to take him overseas AGAIN. Focus came into this game not knowing where it would lead him , but he continued to perfect his craft and toook it to new levels.
