Former NFL player and pro-bowler Kwamie Lassiter played in the NFL for 10 seasons; the majority of his career was spent in Arizona playing for the Cardinals. Lassiter was known for having a nose for the ball (4 interceptions in one game) and punishing receivers, but now he is in a fight to save his 14 year old son (Kwincy) who has been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease.
Kwincy Lassiter has battled this life threatening disease for some time, having to go through countless blood transfusions and all of the physical pain that comes with this type of blood disorder. The Lassiters cannot find a compatible (marrow) match from within the family, and they are now reaching to the community in hopes of finding a donor.
They family has also joined up with “Be The Match“, an organization dedicated to the research of bone marrow transplantation. The goal is to increase the awareness, research, and the possible donors in the marrow registry. Joining this registry is as easy as marking the “Organ Donor” check box on your driver’s license application, you simply swab the inside of your cheek and send the sample in. Roughly 1 in 540 will go on to donate, so numbers really matter here.
If you would like to a possible donor you can begin the process by going to the “Be The Match” website.
