In the summer time most of the youth are usually out having fun and not worrying about school work, because they are trying to relax and have fun. So in recent years in New York different programs were put in to keep the youth educated about leadership, helping out their community, and just becoming a better person in general. Make a play is a program that invites the younger generation to play basketball and give these youngsters something to play for. 
Make a play and the Felipe Lopez Foundation had teamed up to give these young athletes motivation and just to show that you can have fun in a positive environment. Before the start of the game the kids were handed healthy snacks. Not only Make a Play was bringing a fun basketball game to town, but they were showing that you could live a lot longer if you ate healthy.
Former NBA player Felipe Lopez and his team had to play against MAP coaches and their team. Even though the MAP team had a disadvantage because of the height advantage. Felipe’s team took full command of the situation. They rotated the ball around the court, play team basketball, and just flat out torched the other teams inside presence. Even though MAP had took a beaten in the paint, they had fought back. Even though they had a disadvantage with size, they kept playing through the adversity.
The way the MAP team had played was impressive. They played with passion, were an inspiration to each other, and just left everything on the court. After it was all said and done Lopez’s team had won, but each of the two teams were impressive to watch with them play with their hearts.
This type of positive influence on the kids will help them in everyday life. Some of the kids needs some type of positive reinforcement to keep being positive despite what else is going on the world. Basketball is an out let for these kids that has or is dealing with situations that they could not control. This program is just a start to get the community coming together as a whole and enjoy the beauty of being in unity.
