The Green Bay Packers were riding an eight game winning streak dating back to week 12 in the regular season. That streak ended Sunday in the Georgia Dome against the Atlanta Falcons in a 44-21 loss.
The Packers offense was held in check for most of the game. Missed field goals, fumbles in the red zone, and an interception helped the Falcons get up to a 24-0 halftime lead.
After halftime, the Falcons continued to put it on the Packers as receiver Julio Jones took a slant from quarterback Matt Ryan 73-yards to the end zone. Jones finished with 180 yards receiving and two touchdowns on nine catches. Ryan added 392 yards passing and four touchdowns as they head to Super Bowl LI.
Ryan had all day to find his open receivers like Jones, as the Packers were not able to notch a sack against him. The lack of pressure did not help players like undrafted cornerback LaDarius Gunter who was matched up with Jones.
The Falcons will look to capture their first Super Bowl in franchise history as they face the winner of the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers game.
For the Packers, they now have all offseason to get healthy and find the right players to help them reach the Super Bowl next season. It was quite a task for them to get this fair with all the injuries they faced.
