Phillip Rivers and company brought some of that California sun to Buffalo and are looking to take a win back to Los Angeles as they are up big at half, 28-6. The Buffalo faithful came out as they always do – loud. The Bills stuffed the Chargers on their opening drive holding them to a three-and-out, but it’s been all Bolts since. Rivers has gone 15/16 for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns. His running backs, Austin Ekeler and Melvin Gordon both look like potential Pro Bowl candidates as the Chargers have also rushed for 106 total yards.
In what little time Bills quarterback Josh Allen has had to pass, he’s struggled to connect with open receivers. Allen has showed promise in moving the ball though and finishes the half 8/14 with 126 yards passing. Two of his drives have led to field goals by Stephen Hauschka.
If Buffalo wants to get back in to this game they are going to need someone to step up and make big plays on both sides of the ball. Los Angeles seems to be keying on LeSean McCoy so it will be up to Allen’s receivers to help the young quarterback get rolling. Just before half Allen chucked it deep and Zay Jones made a beautiful adjustment to come down with a 57-yard gain. With Allen’s arm strength and Jones ability to catch the ball, Head Coach Sean McDermott should continue to fuel that connection in the second half. Buffalo will also need to make a big play on defense as the Chargers have seemingly done whatever they want. Tre’davious White or Tremaine Edmunds need a take takeaway to prevent back to back blowouts to start the 2018 season.
