NY Giant’s Eli Manning scores big with Rap featuring brother Peyton

It’s football. On your phone. Uh-huh. Yeah.

The NFL’s favorite commercial duo, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and New York Giants Eli Manning, are back at it again. This time, instead of chomping down Double Stuf Oreos or giving each other Charlie horses’ in the ESPN hallways, the brothers were spitting rhymes for DirecTV’s latest commercial.

“We had fun doing the skit. We’d laugh a lot when we’d look at each other and both wonder “What are we doing?”. It was a fun day,” younger brother Eli said as the now-viral video dominated questions from the New York media Wednesday.

The video, released by DirecTV on YouTube less than 24 hours ago, has already amassed over 2.2 million views.

“He’s an original Eazy-E, man,” defensive back Aaron Ross cracked. “That’s classic Eli — the quiet jokester.”

Often labeled as a quiet guy, Eli stole the show from big brother Peyton delivering his lines with his classic southern drawl while sporting a Justin Timberlake-like wig circa his days from N*SYNC.

“It’s good to see Eli in a different light. We see that every day. Maybe not to that extreme, but he’s a funny guy,” Giants punter Steve Weatherford said. “I don’t think people know how quippy and funny he really is. I thought it was awesome.”

Eli’s musical talents, or perhaps lack thereof, went unnoticed by veteran lineman Chris Snee, who has hardly seen the nine-year veteran quarterback’s hip-hop swag.

“No I haven’t heard Eli rap before. I haven’t heard Eli sing, period. When he controls the radio it’s usually country or something no one wants to listen to,” Snee said.

Acknowledging the catchy-ness of the song, he’s caught teammates humming the tune or singing the lyrics in the line at the cafeteria — something he can live with. What he’s been happy to see not happen is the video popping up in one of their meetings.

“The song’s real catchy,” Eli admitted. They’re going around singing the song every once in awhile. They’ve been playing them on the phones a bit, but I usually walk out when I see it. They haven’t asked me to sing it though. I’m glad it hasn’t popped up for any team meetings or anything like that.”

Could this be a fallback career should this whole quarterback thing not work out? Eli hopes not.

“I think I’ll stay with my day job. I’m going to keep playing football for as long as possible. This was just a one-hit wonder,” he said.

Chumbawamba had “Tubthumping”. Dexy Midnight Runners had “Come On Eileen”. And now, Eli Manning has “Football on your Phone”.
