It looked as if things were starting to slip away as the first quarter was coming to a close. However, the Buffalo Bills optimism grew for a better outcome next season as the Bills offense rallied 28 points in the second half and held the Miami Dolphins to only three.
Buffalo beat Miami 42-17. Their highest point total since the 2016 season.
However, without Kyle Williams, it’s clear that younger and older players will have to step up. 35-year old veteran Lorenzo Alexander made clear, “We’re going to need more than just myself if we want to be great next year. I think we need some guys to develop, on the offensive side as well as the special teams.”
Given the play of the last couple of weeks, Josh Allen, Robert Foster and Zay Jones seem to be those offensive pieces that could spearhead a lot of momentum for the offensive unit going into this off-season.
Around the league, it hasn’t been so uncommon of late to see a team jump from mediocre to elite. Especially with a budding young quarterback on the roster.
After finishing 5-11, and their rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky recording a 4-8 record in his games started, many felt a long project would be looming ahead in order to find sustainable success in Chicago.
With the help of acquisition Khalil Mack and Trubisky’s continued progression, the Bears effectively flipped their record to 12-4. The hiring of Matt Nagy didn’t hurt either.
Now with $88 million in cap space for the 2019 off-season, it’ll be up to upper management in order to provide the tools necessary for a big 2019 jump. In the draft, they may also be able to find someone that can contribute right away at their current selection at 9th overall.
Even though the grass always seems greener in seasons ahead, I think there’s real reason to believe that the Bills are ‘almost’ here, and they’re here to stay.
