Ravens’ Rookie Arthur Brown Mentoring Future Linebackers

Arthur Brown, Jr. is arguably one of the best players not only at his position, but overall from the 2013 NFL draft. Brown was a force at middle linebacker for Kansas State over the last two seasons and now is excited to be part of the Super Bowl winning Baltimore Ravens. 

Another first this year for Brown was his football camp focused on helping future NFL hopefuls hone their linebacker skills.  The “Future Elite Linebackers Camp”was held this past Saturday at Haysville West Middle School in Haysville, Kansas, where Brown grew up, and was free for the kids.

“I am doing it to give back to these kids in this community that really look up not only to me but also others in the position I am in” says Brown. “It is really a blessing.”

The camp focused on young linebackers ages 8 to 18 looking to improve their technical skills and also their sportsmanship on and off the field.

“Saturday’s Future Elite Linebackers Camp was a huge success. It was great to be home in Wichita, Kan. working with such an enthusiastic group of kids. I am looking forward to next year’s camp!”

Brown is not the only philanthropic member of his family, his brother, Bryce Brown, who plays for the Eagles, held a running back camp the same day. These two brothers made it easier on the parents of these kids by offering both camps for free.

“Both camps were geared around the same purpose, really just to give back, and no charge to any one in attendance. It doesn’t stop with me and it doesn’t stop here, I am looking forward to watching the community grow from it,” says Brown.

“My fondest memory of a camp when I was young was a camp that Barry Sanders put on when I was about six or seven. Now that I am in a position where I can give back and hold my own camp I know that it is great and I know that it is needed.”

With the retirement of future hall of famer Ray Lewis, Brown is looking to help fill the void and be a leader on the team’s defense.

“Being able to compete and be a very productive, contributing player for the team is all I ask for. I have looked up to Ray Lewis for a while, I like his passion and his love of the game and how it’s expressed when he’s out there.”

Off the field, Brown wants to reach out to kids and be a role model of positivism.
