Jacoby Jones has quickly become one of the most prolific touchdown dancers in NFL history. Unlike most who proceed to celebrating after scoring a touchdown, Jacoby Jones isn’t known for just one dance — he has plenty of dances in his repertoire.
“I got plenty — I keep them in my back pocket,” Jones said after a game in 2012. From the “Choppa Juke City” to his own rendition of the “Cabbage Patch,” it is indeed a party in the endzone when Jacoby Jones scores a touchdown.
Drafted in the third round of the 2007 NFL draft by the Houston Texans, Jones set franchise records in 2011 for most punt returns (49) and punt return yards (518) in a single season. In fact, Jacoby Jones ended his tenure with the Houston Texans, a team founded in 2002, as the most prolific returner in their franchise’s history.
On May 1, 2012, Jones was released by the Texans — only to be picked up by the Baltimore Ravens seven days later. Jacoby Jones continued to have success as not only a return specialist, but occasionally at the receiver position. Jones had a 108 yard kickoff return in a win against the Dallas Cowboys, tying an NFL record for longest kick return. He also returned a kickoff for 105 yards in a win over the Oakland Raiders, becoming the first player to return two kicks for 105 yards or more in a season. Jones took his explosiveness on returns and offense all the way to the Super Bowl in 2012. He played a crucial role in helping the Ravens become NFL Champions. Jacoby Jones tallied the most all-purpose yards in a Super Bowl — netting the longest kickoff return and play in Super Bowl History.
After dancing his way to a NFL Championship, Jones attempted to hoist another trophy on a platform away from football — ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars.”
Jacoby Jones was unable to join prior NFL players who won the show “Dancing With The Stars” — Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward and Donald Driver. But tweeted after finishing in third place — “I want to thank all the fans who voted and all the supporters. Luv yal.. It was a great experience.”
At the age of 29, we haven’t seen the last of Jacoby Jones’ energetic and well choreographed endzone celebrations. He will always be remembered for being one of the better players to dance on NFL soil.
