NEW YORK—The NFLPA Rookie Debut “Let Us Play” Fitness and Skills Clinic Presented by NIKE featured 2011 NFL rookies and other active and former players conducting a fitness and skills clinic for dozens of middle-school and high-school students. The students attend George Washington High School and other schools the surrounding area in New York City.
Players rotated through a variety of stations emphasizing non-contact football skills and healthy living habits. A lunch hosted by NFLPA Rookie Debut sponsor STAR EMBA of The George Washington University School of Business included food provided by Applebee’s.
“It’s very important to connect with the community and connect with kids,” said Von Miller, the second overall draft pick by Denver. “We’re just having fun and showing them that football can be fun; it doesn’t have to always be serious.”
The “Let Us Play” clinic was held Saturday and included several new draft picks, such as: Miller, Marcell Dareus, Blaine Gabbert, A.J. Green, Julio Jones, Ryan Kerrigan, Patrick Peterson and Aldon Smith.
“The whole week has been awesome,” Gabbert said. “Just being out here with the kids, anytime we can come out here and enjoy ourselves … it’s just awesome coming out here.”
