In what has become an annual tradition for the NFL, in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, the NFL has added a touch of pink to everything from players’ shoes and towels to the referees whistles. The Indianapolis Colts went a step further and actually dyed the Downtown Canal in Indianapolis pink to help bring awareness to the disease.
The Pinking of the Canal event took place at the Downtown Canal at the Ohio Street Basin. Everything from pink fountains to pink waterfalls helped bring attention to the event, which is designed to encourage annual screenings for women over the age of 40, and to recognize the survivors of breast cancer.
