Carson Palmer threw multiple interceptions for the fifth straight game Thursday night, as Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and a stout Seattle defense took down the Cardinals in Arizona, 34-22.
The Seahawks (6-1) struck first on their opening drive when Russell Wilson connected with Sidney Rice on a 31-yard touchdown pass to cap off a 5 play 83-yard drive. The following possession Seattle Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas intercepted a deflected pass that was intended for Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Following the interception the Seahawks put together an 11 play 72-yard drive that ended with an incredible full extension, leaping catch by Seattle tight end Zach Miller.
Wilson ended the night 18/29 for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns. There was nothing spectacular about Wilson’s stat line on the night, but for those watching the game one thing was clear. Russell Wilson is a game changer for Seattle. Wilson’s ability to extend the play with his legs allows his receivers to break off of their routes and find open space on the field. After his receivers break free Wilson not only shows off incredible arm strength while making throws on the run (watch his 31-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice), but he displays his precision as well when connecting with tight end Zach Miller from 15 yards out.
Arizona (3-4) was able to force two Russell Wilson fumbles, both of which were within the Seahawk’s own red zone, and led to 10 points. However, the Cardinals offense only mustered a measly 30 yards rushing on 18 attempts. Palmer was 30/45 for 258 yards, a touchdown and added two interceptions. Palmer now has 13 interceptions on the season; only Eli Manning has more with 15.
The Seahawks controlled most of the game and only lead 17-10 at halftime.
In the second half Russell Wilson threw his third touchdown pass, this time from only one-yard away to Kellen Davis. On the following possession Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch found the end zone for his lone score on the night. Lynch finished the game with 91 yards on 21 carries.Arizona kicker Jay Feely hit 3 field goals (49, 52, 22) on the night, two of which were in the second half and Carson Palmer found Jaron Brown for an 8-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter.
The Seattle Seahawks finally returned to form and looked similar to the team that dominated the San Francisco 49ers last month, while the Arizona Cardinals fell below .500 on the season.
Next week the Arizona Cardinals will take on an Atlanta Falcon team looking to find their footing in the NFC South. The Seattle Seahawks will travel to St. Louis to face off against division foe St. Louis.
