Seattle, WA- With only five minutes left in regulation and the Seahawks down by five, Russell Wilson wore the Superman cape and put his team on his back. On the go-ahead drive to put the Seahawks up, Wilson avoided the Los Angeles Rams pass rusher by either stepping up in the pocket or using his legs to keep the possession going. On a crucial third and five, Wilson rolled out to his left and outran the defender to get within striking distance to put the Seahawks in a potential game-winning situation.
On a second and goal, Wilson faked out the linebacker who thought Wilson was going to run and threw a touch pass touchdown to a wide-open Chris Carson. After a failed 2-point conversion, the Rams went back to work only to have their hearts ripped away at a one-handed interception that could have sealed the deal for them, but it did not. On a questionable third and short call, the Seahawks decided to pitch the ball to Carson, which did not go anywhere and the Seahawks had to depend on their defense.
Under a minute in regulation and Jared Goff went down the field and destroyed the Seahawks’ secondary. The Rams were on the verge of winning the game by a chip shot field goal, but the kicker missed the field goal attempt with 10 seconds left in the regulation. The final score was 30-29.
Coming into this game, Pete Carroll had to defend Chris Carson and he liked what he saw out of his running back against the Rams. “I felt like he just picked up right where he left off. I thought he was magnificent last week, and his aggressive style that we love so much, it was just on display again,” Carroll said of Carson. “He lifts us. He lifts us with his effort, in his finish, in his creativity, just his toughness – you can’t deny it.”
Getting another victory against a tough opponent many analysts has felt like the MVP of the league right now is Wilson. It is still a very young season and there is a lot of football to be played.
