Buffalo- The Bills started off well on their first possession against the Indianapolis Colts in the first quarter, but could not push the ball in the endzone and had to settle for a field goal attempt, which they had missed.
Josh Allen started for a few possessions and finished his night 6 of 11 for 66 yards. Matt Barkley took over in the second quarter and after a few bad passes on his first two possessions, the coaches put the ball into the running back Devin Singletary hands. Singletary busted through the Colts’ defense for over 18 yards in three plays. Off of a play-action fake to Singletary on the Colt’s 20-yard line, Bakley threw a strike to Cam Phillips to put the team up 7-0.
After the Bills force a three and out, the Bills went back to work. Barkley threw a couple of slant passes that put the Bills around the 40-yard line of the Colts, but disaster struck! The center miscalculated the timing of Barkley’s count and threw the ball over the head of Barkley.
The Colts recovered the fumble, but did nothing with it! The Bills missed another opportunity to put points on the board when T.J. Yeldon fumbled the ball in the red zone late in the second quarter, but the Bills’ smothered the Colts’ offense.
With under two minutes left in the first half, the Bills scored again on a 1-yard touchdown run by Senorise Perry to put the team up 14-0. After that possession, Barkley was done for the night and finished 9 of 14 for 126 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Colts’ finally got some productivity out of their wide receivers and gained some positive yards down the field to put themselves in field goal position. They capitalized off the field goal attempt and made it a reasonable score at the half 14-3.
In the second half, the Bills’ defense stopped the Colts from getting any type of rhythm or good passes down the field. However, the Colts put up a couple of drives to put a couple of points on the board to make the game suspenseful. Chad Kelly threw the Colts’ first touchdown of the season to Reece Fountain, who has been a wide receiver on the bubble. After the touchdown, the Colts tacked on a field goal to make it an eight-point game (24-16).
The Bills did what they needed to do to win at the end of the game.
