Seahawks Defense Keeps The Eagles Grounded

Seattle- Coming out of their bye week, the Seattle Seahawks wanted to be the aggressor against a struggling Philadelphia Eagles team on Sunday. However, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was inactive due to a hip/core muscle injury, which was a huge loss for the Seahawks and their pass rush. In the first quarter, the Eagles put together a seven-minute drive to get stopped on a third-and-short in the redzone and had to resort to a Jake Elliot field goal, which put the Eagles in front 3-0. On the ensuing drive, the Seahawks dialed up a flea-flicker trick play that turned into a 33-yard touchdown pass. The Seahawks took the lead 7-3.

The Seahawks got a big break when Carson Wentz fumbled the ball late in the first quarter, but could not turn the mistake in points. After a couple of possessions, the Eagles had a promising drive, but Wentz was picked off by Bradley McDougald. After the interception, Wilson threw a 30-yard bomb to David Moore and converted on a couple of third-and-shorts to put them in the redzone. Seattle could not get in the endzone, so they had to kick a field goal to extend the lead 10-3. The halftime score was 10-3.

Late in the third quarter, Seattle’s defense stopped another potential drive for the Eagles, as Shaquem Griffin caused another fumble, but Wilson threw a crucial interception that stopped the Seahawks from putting points on the board. After the Eagles intercepted the ball, Seattle’s defense stopped a potential game-tying drive.

Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny put the game away with a 58-yard scamper to extend the lead 17-3. The 58-yard run was the longest by Penny this season. The Eagles scored late in the game to make it a reasonable 17-9 .
