In a game where the Denver Broncos held Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota to complete six passes out of 20 for 92 yards passing, they still managed to lose 10-13.
The Broncos needed this win as they are in the middle of the AFC playoff race and has the toughest remaining schedule in the NFL. It is time for the offense to contribute more if they want to make the playoffs.
After missing last week with a foot injury, Siemian returned to the lineup. He threw the football 51 times as the Broncos played behind throughout the game. He finished the day with 334 yards and one touchdown. His dynamic receiving duo of Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders helped him as both receivers had at least 10 catches and 100 yards. It was the running game that did not provide much help.
Rookie Devontae Booker and newly acquired running back Justin Forsett combined to run for 18 yards. Forsett fumbled on his first carry as a Bronco and gave the Titans good field position.
“The first carry, I hate losing the ball,” Forsett said. “That bring the whole day down for me. We got the loss, so it’s a tough one. I’ll be better next week, but just an all-around tough day.”
Even with the fumble, Forsett still managed to have more carries than Booker with six. Booker only ran for one yard on three carries. Look for Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak to lean on Forsett more down the stretch. Forsett knows the Kubiak’s scheme from their time together with the Baltimore Ravens in 2014 when Kubiak was the offensive coordinator and Forsett ran for a career high 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns.
The defense continues to play well as that will be key for the Broncos to get into the playoffs. A scary moment happened between Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. and Titans wide receiver Harry Douglas.
Douglas delivered a dirty low block on Harris in the second quarter that resulted in a fight on the next play between cornerback Aqib Talib and Douglas. Harris returned to the game, but it was great to see his teammates stick up for him. Hopefully, this can result in the team coming together and keep their playoff hopes alive.
The lost gives the Broncos an 8-5 record and will play the always-tough New England Patriots next week. Winning the AFC West is more than likely out of reach, but a wildcard berth is still on the table. The Broncos need to start winning games against good teams, as they are 1-4 against teams with a .500 record or better.
