The Buffalo Bills have signed free agent defensive lineman Jarius Wynn to a one-year contract after hosting him at team headquarters on Tuesday.
Wynn was a sixth-round draft pick out of Georgia that spent the first three years of his career as a reserve with the Green Bay Packers. He has 28 tackles and five sacks in that time frame, but was released prior to the 2012 season.
Wynn was asked today what where the reasons you signed with the Bills, and if you see yourself fitting in with the defense.
“The reason I signed was I felt it was great opportunity for me and my family to come here. They wanted me here, so that’s why I’m here, I can fit in at the D-end spot, playing the five and the nine. I feel like I’m a natural D-end, I feel like that’s where I fit in on this defense”.
After his time with the Green Bay Packers he has spent time with the Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers and, most recently, the Dallas Cowboys.
Q: What would you say has been the biggest challenge bouncing around the last couple of years from team to team?
“I guess the biggest thing has been opportunity. Given the opportunity to really just showcase my talent when somebody gives me a real opportunity to come in and play I think that would be the best thing. That’s what I think has been a problem, but I’ve been grateful and glad to do whatever the team gave me and go out there and show my talent. I feel like I have so much talent in different situations, but I never just had the opportunity to really just play”.
Q: You got a good number of snaps for Dallas last season and really with Green Bay you saw a good number of snaps. Do you feel like you’ve proven to teams that you can be part of the rotation?
“Yes I have. I think in Dallas I played 30 percent and I think I did pretty good. I feel like I have shown improvement to guys that I can play in this league and rotate in the rotation, but I’m not trying to be a rotation guy this year. I’m trying to come in and win the starting position and showcase my talent to be able to help my family out”.
Q: Do you know any of the other players on this team and what do you think about the defensive line?
“The guy that I really know is Cordy Glenn, who plays offensive tackle here. As far as the D-line they have great guys up front. Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus, Mario Williams and (Jerry) Hughes. They’re pretty stacked on defense and I’m just glad to be coming in and join these guys. Hopefully we can win a bunch of games and get in to the playoffs”.
I want to thank the @buffalobills for this great opportunity … What a blessing. Want to thank fans for welcoming me with open arms..
