Thomas Morstead, of the New Orleans Saints, decided to give up his trademarked flowing locks for a good cause. The outstanding punter, who could be mistaken for a rock star based on his hair style, participated in the St. Baldrick’s Day party that was held at local hotspot Finn McCool’s. Morstead and others gathered at the event to help raise money to go towards helping children battling cancer.
St. Baldrick’s fundraising efforts are so successful due to the large amount of interest at their head-shaving events. According to its website, St. Baldrick’s has hosted more than 1,200 head-shavings this year, raising more than $20 million.
“Because kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment, ‘shavees’ for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation show their support by shaving their heads voluntarily, and inspiring friends and family to donate money to support childhood cancer research,” the site also reads.
