Saints tight end John Gilmore and Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne joined forces to establish the Gilmore / Henne Community Fund of the Berks County Community Foundation, which provides grants to revitalize parks and recreational facilities in their hometown in Pennsylvania. Their foundation also provides financial support for Berks County students who engage in scholastic sports, who maintain a respectable G.P.A., and who will continue their education at the collegiate level.
John Gilmore’s wife Rebecca and Chad’s wife Brittany help run the foundation with their husbands. Gilmore and Henne believe cleaning up the parks and recreation areas in Berks County is a key factor to maintaining healthy communities, restoring safe havens for youth, and preserving the culture of where they were raised.
On June 24, 2011, John and Chad held their 2nd Annual Rally for Recreation Comedy Showcase and Benefit at the Sovereign Arts Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, and I was honored to be invited to attend. Many current and retired NFL players were in attendance including Kevin Carter, Dolphins defensive end Jared Odrick, Bears tight end Desmond Clark, my husband John St. Clair, and many others.
Shannon Saint Clair Jewelry was sold at this wonderful venue and was also featured in the Silent Auction. There were countless pieces of sports memorabilia including autographed jerseys and footballs, cameras, gift certificates, and vacation packages in their Silent Auction, and even auctioned a whirlpool live on stage in front of nearly 1,000 guests. The night started with a delicious dinner buffet and live dessert table, then featured a comedy show, and culminated with a huge after party on one of the upper floor’s ballrooms, complete with a great DJ who had guests of all ages dancing together. What a memorable night indeed!
John and Chad feel that everyone can participate in the positive work that the Gilmore / Henne Fund is promoting. If you live in a neighborhood near a park, you can help clean it up. If you own a business, you could donate some of your labor or supplies to clean-up a park, feed the clean-up volunteers, or work with the local neighborhood groups.
