Waves of bright red and gold filled the stands and seemed to suffocate the Los Angeles Rams in the Sunday opener. The Rams struggled against the San Francisco 49ers in the first half with no score, which continued on through most of the third quarter. The Rams searched for a miracle on the field with each pass.
The Rams defense was on the field a lot more than they probably expected to be but, they did as much as they could to hold off the 49ers as the game played on. Down 14 points at the half, the Rams were playing catch up. Even with the turnovers, blocked passes, interceptions and sacks the offense wasn’t doing their part to actually score.
The 49ers played as if they were told what the Rams were going to do on each drive. On the other hand, by the start of the fourth quarter, the Rams had probably handed them their playbook because the score was still at 0-14. Before even half the fourth quarter went by another Niners TD was on the board leaving the Rams one sad team.
The faith had to be quickly depleting from the Rams but they kept their game faces on and tried to head fake the Niners to gain their first TD of the night. With an unexpected 49ers fan bolting across the field, when a play was in the making, the poor Rams were thrown off for a moment. The 49ers were affected by the woman as well, though.
Aaron Donald was not having a good night from the start with penalties throughout the game the pressure got to him. With 9 minutes’ left in the game Donald was ejected and disqualified from the game due to a personal foul and being overtly angry. The now angry Rams were more like bulls and were playing poorly consistently.
In the end the Rams didn’t put up any real effort to make real plays. Case Keenum played a pretty sloppy game and even when Todd Gurley and Tavon Austin had possession, they couldn’t move the ball with any real significance. The team didn’t seem ready but with next week’s game at home against the Seattle Seahawks the team better get the A game ready. Both defenses are a force to be reckoned with when they actually play the game.
Sunday, September 18 at 1 p.m. let hope for a game actually worth watching.
