1. Packers trade DL Jerel Worthy to Patriots
The New England Patriots will acquire defensive end Jerel Worthy from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a conditional late-round draft pick.
Worthy, the No. 51 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft coming out of Michigan State, was billed as a boom-or-bust prospect by NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock,
Although he only took 14 snaps last season, suffering the lingering effects of an ACL tear in 2012, his prospects look much improved with the Patriots, with a possible rotational role in the future behind the likes of Vince Wilfork, Tommy Kelly and first-round draft pick Dominique Easley.

2. Broncos’ LB Danny Trevathan out 6-8 weeks
The Denver Broncos are preparing for life without starting weakside linebacker Danny Trevathan who suffered a left knee injury at practice, one that will sideline the third-year lineback for an estimated six to eight weeks.
Reports say Trevathan suffered a left medial tibial impaction fracture (the bone below his knee) but both his ACL and MCL are intact. It won’t be easy for the Broncos to mask over the loss of Trevathan. The Broncos will miss Trevathan, their leading tackler, but will expect him back in their Week 5 matchup against the Cardinals.

3. Ravens’ Lewis-Moore out with Achilles injury
The Baltimore Ravens’ defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore went down with a potentially season-ending injury earlier this week. Lewis-Moore’s Achilles’ is believed to be torn, forcing him to miss his second consecutive season after a torn ACL sidelined him as a rookie.
The injury comes less than two weeks after the Ravens lost fourth-round defensive end Brent Urban to a torn ACL, leaving DeAngelo Tyson and second-round rookie Timmy Jernigan to carry the weight behind Chris Canty and Brandon Williams in their defensive line rotation.
4. Orlando Scandrick suspended four games for PEDs
The Dallas Cowboys’ starting cornerback Orlando Scandrick will be suspended four games by the NFL following his violation of the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.
Reports said that Scandrick took Molly – the street name for MDMA – laced with amphetamine, the drug that triggered the PED violation.
Scandrick started 15 games for the Cowboys last season, posting 64 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions. The suspension is a big blow for the struggling Cowboys’ defense that is already missing standout linebacker Sean Lee (torn ACL) and the team’s second round draft pick, defensive end Demarcus Lawrence (foot). Scandrick will be eligible to return for the Week 5 intrastate matchup vs. the Texans.

5. 27 Illegal contact penalties in Week 1 of preseason
ESPN’s John Clayton tallied 27 illegal contact penalties in the first 17 preseason games, compared to the 37 penalties in all of last season, a reflection of the league’s stricter enforcement of pass coverage rules.
Officials gave out 53 defensive holding calls from Thursday through Saturday, compared to the 171 defensive holds from September through December of last year.
Peter King wrote in his “Monday Morning Quarterback” column he’s been told the league plans to “officiate tight in the preseason” but whether that carries into the regular season remains to be seen.
