This month the Class Act Sports Foundation founded by Victor Green hosted their inaugural Celebrity Golf Classic. The event, hosted at Eisenhower Red Course in East Meadows, New York, raised $100,000 to promote the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle among underprivileged youth through physical education programs and opportunities. This year’s celebrity golfers included basketball legend Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Pro Football Hall of Famer Jonathan Ogden, former New York Jets great Victor Green and many others.
The Class Act Sports Foundation is a new extension to the well established website, ClassActSports.com. Founder Jared Ginsberg created the website in 2009 and then teamed up with former New York Jets safety Victor Green. The duo has worked over the last four years to build their brand and use it to help recognize the positive work that professional athletes put into their communities. After spending nine seasons in New York as a player, Victor Green understands that the positive actions that many players take off the field can be overshadowed by the negative actions of their peers.
“Class act sports wants to be that platform to shine that positive light on the hundreds of guys, the thousands of guys that are really doing some very unique positive things in their community,” said Green.
After years of supporting other foundations and charities through their website, Ginsberg and Green decided that for the first time, they were going to start their own foundation. This year’s Celebrity Golf Classic featured 23 groups, four golfers per group, and other single golfers. Each group was paired with a celebrity golfer and whichever group signed up for the tournament first was the first group to pick a celebrity to golf with. Following a successful day on the course, the foundation hosted a dinner as well as a live auction and award ceremony.
The proceeds that the Class Act Sports Foundation received from the event are used to help underprivileged children understand the importance of living a health, active life. The foundation recognizes that there are kids across the nation who have the ability to play sports, but are lacking the opportunity. It is their goal to provide these kids with opportunities to play sports and chase their dreams.
“We’ve got so many kids out there that can play sports but don’t have an opportunity,” said Green. “We want to make sure that we provide those schools, kids, and foundations to help promote underprivileged kids so they can be able to live out a lot of their dreams.”
While living a healthy lifestyle is extremely important for children across the country, Class Act Sports knows that receiving an education and being successful in schools is equally important. The foundation supports education programs that give kids an opportunity to grow in the classroom, not just on the field. The youth of this country is truly our future, and despite the cliché, it is the goal of Class Act sports to develop the young boys and girls of the country into strong men and women.
“Our purpose is to go out there and get these kids and help them understand that they are our future, show them some love, show them some compassion and kindness,” said Green. “That’s what we have got to continue to do, and I think if we do that then I know this world will be a better place.”
This year’s Celebrity Golf Classic was just a beginning for Jared Ginsberg, Victor Green and the Class Act Sports foundation. In the future they look to continue to grow their tournament in size, next year hoping to add seven more foursomes for a total of 30. The foundation has built a steady base to build from and when asked what the future may hold, Green answered:
“The sky is the limit.”
