Now going into week four you should hopefully have your starting line-up roster set in stone that with the exception of the bye weeks starting up, you shouldn’t need to keep guessing on who to start or who will and will not produce for you.
This is also the time where the roster you drafted will start to go over some turnover as you find out who your busts are and who the free-agent gems that are out there that are worth picking up in your league. When picking up wide receivers and tight ends, you need to consider two important factors. Number one is who is the quarterback throwing to them and number two is how many targets they are getting each game.
When looking at the running backs, ask yourself was it just one week, did he play because of an injury to another back; was it the game plan ala Danny Woodhead? In other words, what upside do they have going forward? How many carries a game do they average? How many catches and targets do they average per game? Are they a team who consistently runs the balls? Are they always playing from behind? Does he leave the game on 3rd down? Can he stay in and block when need to? Because if the running back can’t stay in and block, he becomes limited to the offense and chances are he won’t get that many opportunities and me being a former football player and current coach, to me it’s a sign of whether the play will be a run or pass.
When picking up your free-agents, do not underestimate the kickers. There are plenty of good ones still out there and they will win you many games whether you realize it or not. In the game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night I had Green Bay Packers Kicker Mason Crosby and my opponent had Aaron Rodgers. Can you believe in my league Mason Crosby matched Aaron Rodgers? I repeat, my kicker matched the point total for Aaron Rodgers. Every league is different, every scoring is different. That’s why I try to keep things very general on here but do the research yourself in your league and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
