S Kenny Phillips said he is ready to finally break out in his 4th season. Phillips was held back as a rookie by the learning curve, then a knee injury ended his 2009 season after just 2 games. Last year, he says, never got back to full strength following microfracture surgery. "A lot of guys were telling me it was going to take a year (to get healthy), but I was doing my best to prove them wrong," Phillips told the New York Daily News. "It turns out, they were right." DC Perry Fewell also protected Phillips by playing him in deep coverage and rotating in S Deon Grant. The team did not re-sign Grant, though, and plans to let Phillips spend more time in the box. Fewell said he anticipates a "quantum leap" from the former 1st-round pick. Phillips says the knee is no longer an issue. All of this has led Phillips to go undrafted in many IDP leagues thus far, making him potentially 1 of the biggest defensive sleepers around. He’s well worth a later shot.
