Jags Release Lee Evans, Taylor Price on IR


The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed sixth-year wide receiver Demetrius Williams and fourth-year guard/center Josh Beekman.  Third-year wide receiver Taylor Price was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury.  Veteran receiver Lee Evans was released from the roster.

Williams, 6-2, 202, has spent time with Baltimore and Cleveland and has played in 46 games with four starts since entering the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick of the Ravens in 2006.  He spent four seasons with the Ravens (2006-09) and totaled 63 receptions for 1,008 yards and four touchdowns.  He played in two games for the Browns in 2010 but did not record a reception.  He was with the Browns for the 2011 preseason before he was released on final cuts.  Two of his four career touchdown receptions are from 70-plus yards with a 77-yard score in 2006 and a 70-yard reception in 2008.

A native of Concord, California, Williams started 28 games at Oregon where he recorded 162 receptions for 2,660 yards and 20 touchdowns.  He set a school record with 11 games of 100-plus receiving yards.  He was a standout receiver at De La Salle High School in California.

Williams will wear jersey number 83.

Beekman, 6-2, 310, entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2007.  He started 20 of 28 games in three seasons (2007-09) with the Bears before he was waived in 2010.  He started a career-high 16 games at left guard in 2008 and made four starts at left guard in 2009. Following his release, he spent time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2011 and the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League.

A four-year letterman at Boston College, Beekman started all 37 games (34 at right guard, 3 at center) in his final three seasons.  He received Associated Press first-team All-America honors following his senior season and was named the ACC’s most valuable blocker.  The Amsterdam, New York native was the first-ever four-time member of the Albany Times-Union all-area team at Amsterdam High School.  He also competed in the shot put as a member of the track and field team.

Beekman will wear jersey number 66.
