Getting to know Seattle’s Christine Michael

Quick question: Can you name Seattle’s most outspoken and flamboyant player?

A personable Seattle Seahawk not named Richard Sherman made headlines at Super Bowl XLVIII Media Day at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey-and it’s possible you may have never heard his name before.

Does Christine Michael ring a bell?  If not, I took some time to get to know him a little better on Tuesday.

If Hollywood ever made a movie about Michael’s life, Derek Luke (Boobie Miles in 2004’s Friday Night Lights and 2002’s Antwone Fisher) would be the hand-selected actor to play Michael.  Michael looks up to retired players-turned-analysts such as Ray Lewis and Deon Sanders.  Michael took the time to impersonate Sherman’s now infamous postgame interview following Seattle’s NFC Championship victory.

Christine Michael’s Richard Sherman Impersonation

Michael considers himself to be a triple threat “I can sing, rap and entertain.”  He proved that statement by following it up with a ‘rap off the dome’ or freestyle rap that he came up with on the spot.  Check it out:

Christine Michael’s Freestyle

Christine Michael“I’m just living my life, I earn my stripes in case football don’t work I’m turning to the music life.  How can you hate me where I come from?  My enemies close but my homies be the main one.  Look, I just thirst for the cream, I woke up from this sleep I had to build my dream.  I’m just loving this game, you people feel the same watching my dreams fade away for a quarter I’m Lebron James.”

Not bad for a guy with a bunch of lights and cameras in his face and no preparation beforehand.

Michael is currently in his rookie season and was selected in the second round of 2013′s NFL Draft by the Seahawks out of Texas A&M.  As you may know, the Seahawks and Texas A&M had a dispute over who could legally use the ’12th Man.’

Another reporter asked his thoughts on who should have the rights.  “See you’re about to get me in trouble, man,” Michael said.  “But the one that pays me, thats who I’m gonna ride ’til the end.”  Of course, he is referencing the fact that the Seahawks write his paychecks so he feels an obligation to back them up.  Nothing against Aggie Nation.  “Listen, A&M opened up a lot of doors for me…it’s just a blessing [to have played for them].”

Michael also paid homage to 2014′s potential number one overall draft pick and former teammate, Johnny ‘Football’ Manziel.  “Oh man, that’s my dude.  He’s a great guy on and off the field and Johnny…is a special guy.  A special, special guy.”

A player such as Michael would be the ideal teammate.  While he continued to support his teammates (past and present), Michael showed his unique ability to take the media’s attention off of other open and candid teammates.  An example of this would have to be Richard Sherman.  Sure, Sherman drew the most attention attention today, but its players like Christine Michael who stole the show.
