Carolina Panthers Cornerback Cortland Finnegan at Opening Night
Carolina Cornerback Cortland Finnegan is widely known for his play as well as his intensity on the field. The 2008 Pro Bowler has played for four different teams in his ten year career, but he will now be playing on the NFL’s biggest stage.
Cortland Finnegan when asked about his journey on opening night, “It’s been what you dream about your whole life. When you play football from age seven and you want to play in the NFL, but not only that you want to be part of a Super Bowl. To be almost here is, you can’t put it into words. I walked around for 10 minutes before I did an interview because I’m just so thankful for the opportunity.”
Finnegan on his career being over in 2015, “I retired, I was content in the fact that just being retired was what it is. I played basketball to stay in shape and if someone was to call it was one thing and if they didn’t then that’s another thing. I wasn’t going to lose any sleep either way, but now that I’m here I’m thankful for the opportunity. I can’t be more blessed.”
The Panther cornerback also talked about joining the team, “What you need to understand about Carolina is it’s one big family, it’s togetherness. From the day I walked in to Jared Allen putting his arm around me, to the DBs as soon as I got here being in the group text. It’s one of those things, when you have one common goal and you make it about family and at the end of the day your bond is thicker than just football.”
When asked if Manning’s possible retirement adds to the excitement of the Super Bowl, Finnegan replied, “It doesn’t add, no ma’am it doesn’t. The fact that it’s the next game is huge. I don’t think there’s any pressure to it because it’s the next football game, they’re just making it Super Bowl. That’s big in and of itself, but at the same time you go out there with the same mentality. You just want to go out there and work and have fun.”
