Coach Andy Reid Impressed with 1st Chiefs Game

Sunday September 8th was a good day for Kansas City. The loyal Chief Nation finally saw what they have been waiting to see since the beginning of last season: winning. The Kansas City Chiefs triumphed over the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, 28-2. KC looked like a completely transformed team from last year as their offence scored a touchdown every time they entered the red zone. Alex Smith threw for two touchdowns while running back Jamaal Charles ran for another. The Chiefs also dominated on defense racking up a total of 6 sacks, three of those by LB Justin Houston. Kansas City’s defense also intercepted Jacksonville’s Blain Gabbert twice, including a pick six from LB Tamba Hali. By the end of they game it felt as if Kansas City was playing at home rather than on the road.

“It’s great to see how many Chiefs fans we had in Jacksonville,” acknowledged head coach Andy Reid, “By the end of the game, that whole lower bowl area was all red. Our players, I know, appreciate that.”

The Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid seems just as excited as the fans to see the team winning and discussed how he felt about the victory to the media.

“I was proud of the guys for that. It was nice to see the offense and the defense supporting each other along with the guys supporting the special teams, coaches and everyone seemed to be into it. Then they, like you should in the National Football League, cherished the victory.”

One thing that Kansas City fans and Andy Reid were impressed with was how well Alex Smith played and how he got many different receivers the ball. With one of the worst passing offenses in the league last year, I am sure Chief nation is happy to see that they now have a quarterback who is able to get whoever the ball at all times.

“I think the more guys you can utilize, the more pressure it puts on a defense.” Explained Andy Reid, “If you have to cover everybody, you can’t favor one guy and that’s always been part of this offense. Move it around and give everybody an opportunity.”

The running game of the Kansas City Chiefs continued to seem dominate as Jamaal Charles came out of the gate with 16 carries for 77 yards and 1 TD. However, there was a slight scare in the third quarter when Charles came out of the game on what seemed to be an upper leg injury. Coach Reid discussed his injury and assured us that Jamaal should be fine.

“Jamaal (Charles) has a quad contusion. He does have a range of motion, but we’ll just see how he does here over this week. He is moving around today, he’s ok.”

The Chiefs seemed pretty impressive in the first week on the 2013 season. The real question now is if they will be able to continue winning and become that playoff team that Chiefs fans are for desperately hoping for. They Chiefs have a lot to prove if they look to continue turning heads but as for now they are focused on the Dallas Cowboys, who come to Kansas City and take the Chiefs head on in their regular season home opener.
