The Buffalo Bills continue to be big players in the free agent market, and they are getting the first chance to land another playmaker.
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that free agent Percy Harvin, who was released by the New York Jets earlier in the day, is making Buffalo his first trip in his search for a new team.
While Harvin, who turns just 27 in May, is an explosive playmaker on the field, he has shown that he can be a problem off of it.
The receiver will be on his fourth NFL team in his seven NFL seasons when he reaches his next new deal.
Head coach Rex Ryan might be willing to take a chance though, as he got to see firsthand how Harvin acted in the locker room and his chemistry with other players. He spend a portion of the 2014 season playing under Ryan with New York after he was acquired by the Jets from the Seattle Seahawks for a sixth-round pick early in the 2014 season.
In eight games with the Jets, Harvin caught 29 passes for 350 yards, ran the ball 22 times for 110 yards, added 495 kick return yards, and scored one touchdown.
It would be interesting to see where exactly Harvin could potentially slide into the lineup.
The Bills already have two very talented and emerging young wide receivers in Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods. Putting Harvin in the slot would create quite a dangerous group of pass catchers for whoever ends up starting at the quarterback position.
Harvin could also provide an option as a runner, in what is sure to be a run-first attack in Buffalo this season. Having a guy with his versatility in the back-field would create mismatches and make opposing defenses stay honest against them.
We will have to see if the price is right for these two sides to establish a new partnership.
