Giovanni Bernard, out of North Carolina, was the first running back drafted in the 2013 NFL Draft.
A small, complimentary back Bernard is expected to be a change of pace back to starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who in his first season with the team rushed for over 1,000 yards.
Bernard rushed for 1,228 yards and 12 touchdowns his junior year and had 2,481 and 25 touchdowns in two seasons as a full time starter.
He redshirted as a freshman after suffering an injury to his right ACL.
