Newest Bears’ Alston Jeffery Has Never Gone Unnoticed

Alshon Jeffery, one of the top prospects of the 2012 NFL draft, will start his career with the Chicago Bears.  Jeffery, a wide receiver from South Carolina, ended his college run on a high note. He caught a total of 183 passes for 3,042 yards and 23 touchdowns over a span of 33 starts in his three years. Jeffery joined only two other players in SEC history to surpass 3,000 yards receiving.

In his sophomore season in 2010, Jeffery led the SEC in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Despite dealing with issues at quarterback, Jeffery still led the Game Cock’s offensive attack. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft, the 45th player selected overall.

Although his weight has been subject to controversy, his 6’3” and 212 pound frame will provide quarterback Jay Cutler with another weapon. In combination with recently acquired veteran receiver Brandon Marshall, Jeffery may be the spark that the Bears have lacked. No matter his weight, Jeffery plans on maintaining his physique and looks forward to playing between the 215-220 lbs. range.

Just hanging out. Some of them we did know, some of them we didn’t know. We’re just building relationships.”

He added that he has just been “enjoying the practice here and there, signing cards, and just having fun.”
