Aaron Rodgers won’t be losing one of his top targets after all.
The Green Bay Packers reached an agreement with free agent wide receiver Randall Cobb on a new four-year, $40 million deal that will keep the playmaker in green and yellow for the foreseeable future, according to a report by Adam Schefter.
$17 million of the deal is guaranteed.
Cobb, who is still just 24 years old, is coming off a career year in 2014 that saw the young playmaker haul in 91 receptions for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. In doing so, Cobb became just the fifth player in Packers history to record a 90-plus catch season.
He was also one of the top players about to enter free agency and had a lot of suitors on the open market. According to reports, Cobb had about six to seven deals on the table, and turned down considerable more money than he would have got elsewhere to remain with the Pack.
Cobb will rejoin Rodgers and wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who signed a big contract extension last off-season.
The two became the first receiving duo in NFL history to register 90-plus catches, 1,200-plus receiving yards and 12-plus touchdowns in the same season.
With Cobb’s new deal, it means that he along with Rodgers and Nelson are all under contract through the 2018 season.
Needless to say, the Packers offense won’t be missing a beat in 2015.
