Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus entered this year’s National Football League Draft after a monster junior season that culminated in winning the Ted Hendricks award for top defensive end in the nation. The Houston Texans made Mercilus their first choice, selecting him 26th overall in the first round. Pro Player Insiders caught with Mercilus in New York City for Draft activities.
One of the first things that Mercilus is looking forward to is meeting his fellow draft prospects
“Just looking forward to having a good time and meeting all the players,” Mercilus said. “You know all the players that I trained with you know and all the other new players that were training elsewhere, just having a good time in the NFLPA and just chatting it up.”
Mercilus addressed that how it feels to be playing with or against some of the idols he grew up watching.
“It’s weird to come into the league and the idols you been watching your whole life and now you’re playing right next to them. You know like Ray Lewis and the rest of them.”
