Fred Jackson’s career as a Buffalo Bill came to an end Monday after the team announced their decision to release the 34-year-old veteran after eight seasons with the team.
General manager Doug Whaley acknowledged yesterday that Jackson was expendable due to the teams’ depth at the position as well as the $2.35 million base salary he was set to make in the final year of his contract.
Signed to the Bills practice squad as an undrafted free agent out of Coe College (Division III) in 2006, Jackson encountered and overcame a number of obstacles throughout his career. Whether it was suffering a season ending broken fibula in 2011 or having to battle numerous first round draft picks (Marshawn Lynch and C.J. Spiller) for touches, Jackson embraced every challenge thrown at him to become an admired favorite of both Bills fans and players.
The reason this cut was difficult to understand by so many is because of how well respected and admired Jackson truly was:
Worst part about Bills releasing Fred is he represented a bad team for very long time with pride. Not many do that in 2days pro sports world

Below you will see a list, in no particular order, set out to commemorate Jackson’s top moments as a Bill. They may not all be flashy touchdowns and big plays, but that is what made Jackson such a complete football player that will forever leave him respected in Buffalo. Reports this morning state Jackson is visiting Seattle where he will perhaps be reunited with former teammate Lynch. If he signs with the Seahawks, he will have a very strong chance to make the playoffs for the first time in his career.
