San Diego Chargers offensive lineman Kris Dielman is planning to announce his retirement later this week, at a news conference tentatively schedule for Thursday.
Dielman suffered a season ending concussion against the New York Jets earlier this season. Although Dielman was seen to be stumbling around the field and looked disoriented, he was left in the game and continued playing. On the flight back from New York to San Diego, Dielman suffered a seizure and hasn’t played since then.
The incident led to the addition of spotters in the booth to watch the players and notify the sidelines of any potential injuries that should be checked out by the team’s medical staff.
