The Baltimore Ravens have announced that they have selected their 2014 class of Ravens Scholars. This marks the fifth consecutive year that they are rewarding the scholars. The $5,000 renewable college scholarship award is given to five outstanding area high school seniors who have excelled academically and have participated in extracurricular activities including community service.
Students who attended public schools in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Carroll County were able to apply for the award. These are all areas where the Ravens have training facilities, team offices and conduct youth football camps. The scholarship program is funded by the Ravens Foundation, Inc. to open the door for local youth to pursue a college education. This is an example of the Ravens commitment t serving their local community.
The scholarship committee selected ten finalists after receiving over 124 applications. The ten finalists were interviewed at the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills, Maryland. This is a part of the Ravens continued partnership with CollegeBound Foundation which is an independent, nonprofit program that works specifically with local students and assisting them in their pursuit of a post-secondary education. Ravens executives Chad Alexander (assistant director of pro personnel) and Patrick Gleason (assistant director of public relations) combined with CollegeBound to conduct the interviews.
