Seattle, WA- As a two-time NAACP Image Award-nominated episodic director, Eric Dean Seaton has directed over 200 television episodes of numerous hit shows such as ABC’s “Dr. Ken,” NBC’s “Undateable” and “Truth Be Told,” TVOne’s “Here We Go Again,” TBS’s “Ground Floor,” and BET’s “Let’s Stay Together, but Eric had to define obstacles that were in his way to make his vision happen.
“Everyday I have to bring it because I am at times, the only minority in the room. I have to do more than the average person because, in this field, it is very competitive. You have to have an eye for creativity and everything around me is fast-paced. I want to be the best that I can be. The little time that I have to myself, I am busy trying to find ways to improve my craft. I have been very blessed with all these opportunities, but it was not handed to me. I had to work hard for everything.”
Outside of directing, Eric has had a passion for comic books since he was little, which led him into writing his own novel called Legend of the Mantamaji . Legend of the Mantamaji is about a rising Assistant District Attorney in New York, who learns he is the last of a race of mystical knights called the Mantamaji.When an ancient evil is resurrected, Elijah has to learn to turn his back on everything he’s worked for, accept his birthright, and learn how to use his magical warrior abilities to defeat the greatest threat without getting distracted by different obstacles.
“I always wanted to write a comic about a superhero, who looked like me. You have to realize when I was young, I really did not see any superhero of color that look like me, so I always imagined what it would look like if it was brought to life. I had so much fun writing the novel and maybe in the future, it would turn out to be a film. That would be a dream come true for me, but we shall see.
Even though Eric has been busy with his career, he hs always encouraged people to be ambitious and devoted to accomplishing their goals and dreams. “Do not accept no as a form of rejection, but you should take it as a process to learn and grow from it. Find a crack at what you are good at and go for it. Do not worry about the risks. A lot of people worry about the risks and that is why some of them have never reached their dreams. So dream big and work hard.”
