UFC’s light heavyweight champion Jon Jones tested positive for steroids and news broke on Monday. Sources have stated that if this stands true, Jones could be banned from the UFC up to four years. This is the second time that Jones had tested positive for an illegal substance. Jones is 23-1 in his career and has been called one of the greatest fighters that have fought in the octagon, but a serious of illegal substances, wrong choices, and being “young” has clouded Jones’ integrity to the sport.
Jones has had multiple chances to get himself going in the right direction, but somehow he is in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. If this steroid test holds up, not only will Jones lose his belt, dream, and fans, but he will lose the trust of others. This test can determine if Jones will be let go from the UFC. One of Jones’ representatives released a statement following the incident; “We are all at a complete loss for words right now. Jon, his trainers, his nutritionists and his entire camp have worked tirelessly and meticulously the past 12 months to avoid this exact situation.”
“We are having the samples tested again to determine the validity or source of contamination. Jon is crushed by this news and we are doing whatever we can as a team to support him.”
The steroid that Jones allegedly used was Turinabol. Turinabol is an anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) based on a derivation of testosterone. Turinabol is also known as 4-chlorodehydromethyltestosterone, DHCMT, and CDMT. Unlike many AAS, Turinabol is taken orally rather than injected.
Hopefully, in the next few weeks, there will be some answers to see what is going on with another possible ban for Jones or if Jones can survive another controversial obstacle that he has to face. Either way, Jones’ legacy is looking grimmer by the minute.
