On Sunday afternoon Frank Gore would become just the fourth running back in NFL history to eclipse the 15,000-yard mark. The 36-year-young product of “The U”, would pass the milestone on vintage 41-yard gallop into Patriots territory late in the second quarter. The drive would result in a field goal, Buffalo’s first points on the day, but the Bills would lose the game 16-10 in a hard-fought defensive battle.
Gore would finish the day with 17 carries for 109 yards. Through the first four game of the year the future Hall of Famer has 273 yards rushing, the most by any running back 36 or older in the history of the league.
If there’s anything Frank Gore has been more reliable at than running the football, it’s being a class human. In a day and age where athletes are more focused on building their own brand, Gore remains a team player. You won’t hear about any off-field issues, Twitter wars, or trade demands. In fact, even when he has the opportunity to vent, he’ll take the high road. Gore may have finished the game with 109 yards, but he didn’t have a single carry in the final 11+ minutes of the fourth quarter. When asked by a reporter how difficult it was to not get carries at the end of a game like this, Gore shrugged it off. “It’s cool. You know, we believe in our coaches, whatever our coach calls, we’re going to do it,” Gore said. “It ain’t just about me, it’s about all of us.”
Gore will look to keep his momentum going next week against the Tennessee Titans and the 21st ranked rush defense.
