With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month in the NFL, we’ve seen a lot of different gear on the field including special pink gloves and shoes. A reader asked if the different gear that the players are wearing this month could affect their play on the field.
Obviously, things like shoes and gloves have a big impact on how the players run, cut and catch the ball, so the players and teams are very particularly about all of the gear they wear. Everything that you are seeing this month is the exact same gear that they wear the rest of the season – it is just cosmetically different as they add pink accents for Breast Cancer Awareness.
In fact, it is even made by the same manufacturers. The NFL sponsors like Reebok or Nike make the exact same products in different color combinations for the month of October.
Incidentally, Nike officially takes over the uniforms next year as they begin their sponsorship contract with the NFL, taking over from Reebok. Nike has dropped a few hints that the uniforms will be different, likely incorporating both new design features as well as new technologies. See the video below for a Nike teaser.
