WHAT:         Hometown Huddle with the Miami Dolphins and United Way

EVENT:        Monday Oct. 27, 2014 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Orange Bowl Field at Joseph C. Carter Park – 1450 W Sunrise Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311

DETAILS:      Miami Dolphins players, cheerleaders, mascot T.D., Miami Dolphins Women’s Organization members and United Way volunteers, alongside 350 kids from Sunland Park Elementary School, will participate in the Hometown Huddle. The event will include a Gatorade Junior Training Camp featuring football stations for the Sunland Park Elementary students. The students will   run through football drills and create thank you cards for military packages to be distributed at the Dolphins’ Nov. 13 Salute to Service game against the Bills. In addition, the kids will be given the Dol-fit message on education, physical fitness and positive choices.

  • With the 27-13 victory over the Jaguars, the Dolphins improved their overall record against their two in-state rivals, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay, to 9-8.   • With the victory over the Jaguars, the Dolphins have posted the franchise’s 26th winning record in the month of October. Miami’s record in the month of October has improved to 110-82-3. The 110 victories over the franchises’ 49-year history are the second-most wins in a month, behind the 111 the team has recorded in the month of November.

 

  • After today’s game, Miami is now 67-49 against the teams currently in the AFC South in the regular season.

  • With the 27-13 victory today over the Jaguars, the Dolphins have started the 2014 campaign scoring 24-or-more points in five of their first seven games for just the sixth time in franchise history (1975, 1984, 1985, 1986, 2002) and for the first time since the 2002 season.   • For the second time in 2014, the Dolphins scored an offensive (touchdown pass from QB Ryan Tannehill toWR Rishard Matthews) and defensive touchdown (S Louis Delmas and CB Brent Grimes interception returns for touchdowns) in the same game. The feat was last accomplished in London against the Raiders in the Dolphins 38-14 victory on September 28, 2014.

 

  • Miami outgained Jacksonville 270 yards to 158 yards in the second half.

 

  • DE Olivier Vernon blocked a 48-yard field goal attempt on the Jaguars opening possession. The last time Miami blocked a field goal was when DT Jared Odrick blocked one vs. Carolina on Nov. 24, 2013.

 

  • S Louis Delmas recorded an interception and returned it 81 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. It was his first interception of the season and seventh of his career. The touchdown was the second of Delmas’ six-year career, the first occurred on Dec. 20, 2009 as a member of the Detroit Lions when he picked off a Kurt Warner pass and returned it 101 yards for a score. The last time Miami recorded an interception and returned it for a touchdown was when CB Brent Grimes recorded one and returned in 94 yards vs. Cincinnati on Oct. 31, 2013.

  • S Louis Delmas recorded an interception and a fumble recovery today. The last time a player recorded an interception and a fumble recovery in the same game was S Reshad Jones when he recorded an interception and two fumble recoveries vs. Buffalo on Dec. 23, 2012.

 

  • LB Jonathan Freeny recorded the first sack of his career for a loss of four yards in the second quarter.

 

  • LB Jelani Jenkins caused his second forced fumble of the season and his career in the second quarter, which was recovered by S Louis Delmas. It was Delmas’ sixth fumble recovery of his career and second of the season.  The Dolphins extended their lead over the Jaguars to 10-3 on the drive following the Delmas recovery on a 43-yard K Caleb Sturgis field goal. The scoring drive was the second time this season that Miami has scored after Delmas has recovered a fumble. The first was a third quarter, 14-yard touchdown reception byWR Mike Wallace from QB Ryan Tannehill on Sept. 7, 2014 in a 33-20 Dolphins victory over the Patriots.

 

  • DE Cameron Wake recorded a sack for a loss of three yards in the second quarter to improve his season total to 5.5 sacks. That sack moved him past Trace Armstrong for sixth-most sacks in franchise history. He currently has 56.

 

  • CB Brent Grimes recorded an interception and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. It was his second interception returned for a touchdown in his career, with the last one occurring Oct. 31, 2013 vs. Cincinnati.

 

  • With S Louis Delmas’ 81-yard interception return for a touchdown and CB Brent Grimes’ 22-yard interception returned for a touchdown, this is the fifth time in team history that the Dolphins have returned two interceptions for touchdowns in a game. The last time was Dec. 6, 1998, at Oakland when LBs Zach Thomas (1 yard) and Robert Jones (14 yards) returned interceptions for touchdowns.

  • RB Lamar Miller is having his best season rushing and receiving, after his first seven games of 2014 he has 605 yards from scrimmage (469 rushing and 136 receiving), more than he did after his first seven games in 2013 (391 yards from scrimmage – 343 rushing and 48 receiving) and 2012 (158 yards from scrimmage – 145 rushing and 13 receiving).
