With the opening of their new stadium last year, the Jets also unveiled a Ring of Honor to respect franchise legends. Larry Grantham, Freeman McNeil, Gerry Philbin, and Al Toon will be added during the Monday Night Football game against the Miami Dolphins on October 17.
The four Jets greats follow an inaugural class consisting of Curtis Martin, Weeb Ewbank, Winston Hill, Joe Klecko, Don Maynard, and Joe Namath. Grantham, a linebacker, and Philbin, a defensive lineman were part of the 1969 Super Bowl III championship team along with Namath.
It is only fitting that McNeil, second behind only Curtis Martin on the Jets all-time rushing yards list, will be enshrined in MetLife Stadium permanently. McNeil played the entirety of his 12-year career with the Jets after being selected third overall in the 1981 NFL Draft.
Toon was a three-time All Pro receiver for the Jets, where played all eight years of his career until retiring in 1992. He was selected to three straight Pro Bowls starting in his second year, capped off by a league-leading 93-reception season in 1988.
The second Ring of Honor class was reported in anonymity, as there has not yet been an official announcement from the Jets, which is expected to come next week.
