Seattle- After beating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime on Monday night in a thriller 27-24, the Seattle Seahawks had to hold their breath because their primary receiver Tyler Lockett was injured with a leg contusion. It has been reported by multiple sources that Lockett did not need surgery and felt like he could be back in the line-up next week. Seahawks’ head coach, Pete Carroll, is taking some precautions with Lockett moving forward. “Our people think he’s going to be fine to play,” Carroll said, according to the team’s website. “He’ll need the rest of this week to make sure everything goes away, but he should be fine to play next week.”
Lockett has emerged as Russell Wilson’s main receiver this season and is a big factor in getting Seattle in scoring position to win games or keep drives alive. This year Lockett is averaging 12.8 yards per catch and has caught 62 balls for 793 yards and has six touchdowns. Lockett has been on fire this season, and deserves to be one of the candidates for the most improved player this year. Lockett has always been dangerous on special teams, having 1,068 punt and kick return yards combined, but he has expanded his game in the wide receiver role. He has become a crafty receiver, getting to the right spots in his routes and winning jump balls over defenders. He has been one of the elite factors in keeping this underdog team in the hunt for postseason play.
