This season for the New York Giants have been nothing but turmoil. The Giants as a whole needs to find out what was missing and fix it in the off-season. After the second blowout this season to the Seattle Seahawks, there have been many blows aiming their way to offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, Gilbride has been called the ” worst coordinator this season.”
Throughout the week Kevin has been critiqued, crucified, and crush in the eyes of others around the league, but Giants head coach Tom Coughlin backed up his coordinator. “It certainly hasn’t been a connect-all-the-dots-from-day-one type of year,” Coughlin said, via the New York Daily News. “But Kevin’s a pro. He’s been around; he’s done things a long time. We try to find ways to take advantage of things.”
Coughlin admitted the offense was “pathetic” on Sunday, but indicated that he believed Gilbride’s overall offensive philosophy would succeed if the Giants had the proper personnel in place.
You cant put all the blame on the coordinator; the Giants have not looked the same since last season. They are dealing with key injuries and really can not get opponents off the field in third down situations. Eli Manning has had trouble with identifying blitz schemes and reading the defense; his offensive line is struggling to protect Eli.
In Sunday’s loss Coughlin was furious at how his team handled the game, but stated later to the media “You say some things that perhaps you shouldn’t say and you should bite your tongue,” he said. “Not that there’s anything to say about anyone that really didn’t take place or wasn’t a fact.”We definitely want to see more fight, more attitude, more passion for the game,” Coughlin said about the team.
Frustration has settled in the locker rooms and players are getting tired of losing; “There wasn’t anything said that I don’t think was totally undeserved,” Manning said. “Offensive, I don’t know . . . whatever word you want to use to describe it is probably pretty accurate. It wasn’t good. It wasn’t a good outing by us and that’s disappointing and upsetting.”
Even Justin Tuck was optimistic within his statement about playing better.” “I just think there was a sign of trying to challenge guys to go out there and play better,” Tuck said. “I just think it was guys trying to get guys riled up to go play better.”
