Finnegan Says Absence For Personal Reason Titians Officials Were Notified

Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan is back in training camp after a brief departure this week, and has clarified erroneous reports that he had departed due to a hold out over a new contract.

Finnegan responded via Twitter, “My absence had nothing to do with a holdout yet a personal matter that Titan officials were aware of.  I am grateful for being a Titan.  I am also thankful for my current contract and direction of team. It’s obvious [the] media had no idea of why my absence took place.  I have spoken with coaches and teammates and will resume all things asked. Sad to see media made this out to be about money when I’m happy.”

He went on to explain that any absence doesn’t necessarily translate to a contract holdout and, “Family issues come up I’m human thank you Nashville for understanding.”

Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt had reported to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean that the team had not been able to get in touch with Finnegan and that they were surprised that he had left.  Reinfeldt discussed Finnegan’s contract status in the article, but at the time of publication, Finnegan and his agent were not available for comment.

Titans running back Chris Johnson has continued his holdout and hasn’t reported to training camp. Johnson has led the NFL in yards rushing since he was drafted in 2008, and he is scheduled to make $850,000 this season.
