Rivers and Company Fully Charged for Falcons

Tomorrow is going to be another great day for our beloved San Diego Chargers. Philip Rivers is on pace to tie Drew Brees for 25,000 yards in 102 games. That puts him in good company with the likes of Dan Marino and Peyton Manning. Rivers of course is making no big deal of the achievement but it is a notable milestone, especially considering that Rivers replaced Brees.

Tomorrow may also prove to be a good omen if the Chargers get the win as 3 out of 4 teams that start the season 3-0 make the playoffs. Going into tomorrow’s game, it seems that the Chargers may be getting Ryan Mathews and Antonio Gates back from injuries.  According to Coach Norv Turner, Mathews “took normals reps” during the week and Gates “was moving fast…and he looked good.” Adding two very talented players will only strengthen the Chargers going into this weekend’s game.

In the absence of Matthews and Gates, Chargers’ fans have seen Malcom Floyd and Dante Rosario do fantastic work with the pigskin.  Floyd is looking good and when he is healthy, my oh my, can he reach out and snag a ball! In last week’s win Floyd had 6 catches for 109 yards, doing a great job using his size to get the best position on the ball. As Coach Turner stated, “That’s the way he’s played when he’s been healthy. When he puts a string of games together he’s been able to do those things. He’s created a match up problem. He catches balls when he gets open but he catches a lot of balls when he’s covered too.”

Size and athleticism are a tough combo to stop, which brings me to Rosario! He had the game of his career, racking up 3 touchdowns, the most by a Charger tight end since Gates did it all the way back in 2005 against the Chiefs.  Rosario has looked very solid in Gates’ absence and it would be great to see some two tight end sets on Sunday.

While the Chargers are facing a ball-hawking defense against the Falcons, Rivers has the weapons to charge on and bolt those birds on a wire.

BOLT UP!
