Pro Player Insiders Top 500 Draft Prospects: Southern Cal’s Leonard Williams #1

The 2015 NFL Scouting Combine is this week and that means that 322 of the top prospects in the country will ascend on Indianapolis, Indiana for the annual pre-draft event.

Looking back on the combine it is actually funny because there are many who doubted whether anyone would watch it. It’s one of the most watched events of the football calendar.

Interestingly the most important parts of the combine are not even seen by the media nor the fans and they never should, nor do I think they will be. NFL prospects are going to go through very tough interview sessions and NFL team doctors will examine these players and potentially find career-ending conditions. Some players this week will see their stock plummet on draft day and you won’t even know it until after the draft is over and the 85th player on your list is still on the board.

Can’t help but mention seeing an invite taken away from Tennessee LB AJ Johnson because of a rape case. That’s the first time an invite has ever been taken away. If he is in your top 100 then you may need to drop him. If you remember NFL teams did not even give a chance to Abilene Christian tackle Tony Washington because he had sex with his sister. That story was told heavily just before the draft and he was given a combine invite but teams still passed on him all together. Johnson and some others this year may not even get in a camp because of off the field situations. Hopefully young players see what is going on in the media and realize that character is important.

We have dropped Johnson heavily on our list to reflect his value as he went from a player we once had in the top 100 to now 387 on our board, and potentially falling more.

Our number one player continues to be Southern California defensive tackle Leonard Williams.

Currently there are 250 players projected to be drafted with some others in the 7th-PFA range who will fall even further due to off field issues and some listed as priority free agents who will surely rise onto the draft board.

This list will change but it will stay the same 100% until the end of next week once we start to tweak the projections as we pour over our notes from the NFL Combine.
