Olsen was scheduled to enter the final year of his contract this season but the extension could keep him in Carolina through 2018. An underrated player and rising star, Olsen made his first pro bowl last season. He will turn 30 on March 11.
The former Miami Hurricane was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round (31st overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. On July 28, 2011 the Bears traded Olsen to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2012 third round draft pick. Jerry Angelo, the Bears GM at the time, would later admit the trade was a mistake for the Bears.
