Philadelphia Eagles’ starter Nick Foles has impressed yet another person with his accurate passes to receivers. This person that he has impressed is Eagles’ quarterback coach Bill Musgrave. This is Musgrave first season with the Eagles and already Foles has him geared up and excited for the season. Musgrave had touched on some positive notes about Foles’ strengths with throwing the ball accurately.
“We know he’s a gifted athlete. He can throw the ball exactly where he wants to,” Musgrave explained, per the Philadelphia Daily News. “He can add air and put a little touch on down the field passes. He can add velocity and really drive it when it’s needed, but to see the way that he can visualize formations, coverages, and process what he sees has been impressive.”
Foles had an outstanding season with being cautious with the ball and pin pointing the right receiver in tight spaces. With twenty seven touchdowns and only 2 interceptions last season, Foles seems to have the Eagles’ system down pat, but he can only get better with Musgrave coaching him to greatness.
Nick is very accurate,” Musgrave said. “At this level you only get so many opportunities to carve up a defense. The defenses are good and the defensive coordinators are brilliant. One of Nick’s strengths is being accurate. If it’s there there’s a very good chance Nick’s going to put it right on the receiver. In terms of improving Nick did a good job of protecting the football for the most part last year and we’re always looking to do that because those are tough mistakes to overcome. We also want Nick to protect his body especially late in the down and not take so many hits. I don’t want to call them unnecessary hits because they are necessary in the game that we play. You want to get the maximum yards out of each and every play, but we also want Nick to be able to stay upright and stay on the field.”
“I think Nick can be a lot better and I know he shares that sentiment. He’s looking to have a fantastic year because there are a lot of unknowns in terms of how defenses can counterbalance our system. Nick knows our system more and he’s in a different role at this stage than he was 12 months ago. I know he’s looking forward to taking that next step says Musgrave.
“Windows will get tighter and defenses will try to bring stuff that’ll stop you,” Foles acknowledged late last month. “They have more film on you and that is the reason why other defenses know your tendencies and try to exploit them.” That is why we need to keep working hard to enhance our production says Foles.”
“Nick has really got a great command of what we are doing offensively,” Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said. “There’s a lot more confidence in how he’s playing and now it’s just a matter of refining the little things for him, footwork, hand‑offs, carrying off fakes. Not the minor details; they are really major details, but he’s not worried with where he’s going with the ball. It’s just how he going to do that; how can he manipulate the safety, but he’s still going to throw the ball to his left.”
With the spotlight on Nick this season will he leave us with another ground breaking season or will the Eagles’ season flop. Only time will tell, but Nick and the Eagles’ organization is very optimistic about this season.
